Headed by Dean under the leadership of College Principal: This mission school was pioneered in 1958 with the sole objective of training men and women for the ministry of evangelism and discipleship in Africa. Over the years the School has offered theology with clear inclination towards Mission studies, thus evangelists graduating with certificates and diplomas in mission. Mid 1990s in attempt to be in line with other theological training institutions in the region, the College resolved to offer a three year Higher diploma in mission theology. By the year 1997 these courses were validated by the college of St. Marks and St. John’s of the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. Few years later the college collaborated with the University of South Africa (UNISA) who admitted Higher Diploma students to degree in a theological programme

Church Army School of Mission (SOM)

Since then, two more centres were established; Centre for Urban Mission (offering Diploma in Urban missiology) and the Centre for continuing education training in the Diploma in School Chaplaincy (DCMSC), Diploma in Civic responsibility (DCMCR), Diploma in Family and Children Ministry (DCFM). In 2015, Centre for Urban Mission was separated from Carlile College and became a department under CAA however, the Centre is still actively involved in the recruitment and training of students admitted for the Diploma in Urban Mission which is still offered within the academic programmes of Carlile College. In the same year, a one-year Certificate course in theology was introduced. Currently all the theological courses offered at Carlile College are validated by St. Paul’s University, Kenya.

In 2009, the College adopted a holistic approach to implementation of its programs as an approach to rebranding the College to embrace a new theology and practical approach to mission as integrated model of training in mission and carried out in other CAA programs as its DNA across Africa. Within the period of this strategic plan, the School of Mission seeks to implement the CAA H.E.A.L strategic agenda through the development and implementation of a curriculum that teaches H.E.A.L related courses. The programmes offered within this school are:-

  1. Certificate in theology within duration of one year divided into two semesters and is offered on a part time basis, evening classes.
  2. Diploma in Cross Cultural Mission (CCM) within a duration of three academic years taken in trimester mode per year on full time basis
  3. Diploma in Urban Mission (UM) within a duration of three academic years taken in trimester mode per year on full time basis.
  4. Diploma in Christian Mission and Civic Responsibilities (DCMCR) within a duration of two academic years taken in trimester mode per year conducted in the evenings and on Saturdays.
  5. Diploma in School Chaplaincy (DCMSC) within a duration of two academic years and offered through a school based programme mode; April, August and December.

While the foreign bodies are Association of Business Executive (ABE-UK), Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), Association of Business Management and Administrators (ABMA) and The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies (CIPS). The School demonstrates in praxis the H. E. A. L strategy by offering some of the courses borrowed from the school of mission to enrich its curriculum for the training of evangelists. Equally, this strategic plan anticipates that some selected mission courses should be taught in CABS to shape he worldview of those training at the school. The education at Carlile College is tightly hinged to the H.E.A.L Africa Vision of CAA.

This education is motivated by the desire and intention to contribute to the transformation of Africa that is faced with a number of problems ranging from illiteracy, poverty, diseases, conflicts and injustices.

Through the missions and business schools, Carlile College strives to offer a holistic education which empowers Evangelists and church leaders to be the proclaimers of the Gospel as well as equip them with technical and professional skills. This enables them to be hands-on evangelists and proclaimers of the Gospel. The graduands from CABS are not only equipped with technical and professional skills, but also discipled and mentored around the word of God. Through this holistic training, the students from both schools are inculcated with the knowledge and skills that enables them to contribute to the transformation of African Society thereby realizing the HEAL agenda.

After the completion of the building early 1973, the kindergarten, at that time only known as the nursery school was officially opened on 17th February 1973 by the late Rev. Obadiah Kariuki, The then Anglican Bishop of Mt. Kenya Diocese.

The school was founded on strong, sound Christian principles and a high level of discipline. With all staff being strong Christians, the environment is conducive for open learning and spiritual nourishment of young pupils. This has as well contributed to the excellent performance of the school. The school from inception offers the Kenyan 8-4-4 system of education and prepares pupils for the Kenya Certification of Primary Education (KCPE) examination which is examined after eight years in primary school.
