About Centre for Urban Mission

Centre for Urban Mission (CUM) is a ministry of Church Army Africa (CAA), an institution of the Anglican Church in Africa. CUM began in 2002 with the intention of equipping the church to respond to the challenges of urbanization in African cities. CAA is committed to the H.E.A.L strategy (Health, Education, Advocacy and Leverage of wealth creation). CUM implements this strategy within cities and rapidly urbanizing spaces across Africa. The overall aim of CUM is to equip church leaders in urban mission while working with local churches to bring about holistic transformation of informal settlements.

Tafakari Solution

Problem Statement

Young people in Kibra cannot connect to dignified work because of barriers in access.

Main Challenges

  • Skilled workers based in Kibra lack information about available work
  • When they find work, brokers exploit them by underpaying
  • Trust is an issue for both workers and those with work
  • Emotional trauma of not finding work – men are most affected
  • Lack of financial literacy and skills constraint ability to save, access insurance etc

Objective

  • Remove barriers and brokers so that young people in Kibra can access dignified work
  • Empowerment through skills training and financial management
  • Provide a good employer experience

Coming Soon

The Tafakari Solution app is currently under development. We're working hard to create a platform that will connect young people in Kibra with dignified work opportunities, remove barriers, and empower communities through skills training and financial management.

Stay tuned for updates on this transformative initiative!
